Rainbow Centres herstory/archive of positive action. To take action for a better future

Not so long ago. ( 1992.)......in a continent far far away ...... a summit for the Earth was held...... People from every country came, to create an agenda for the 21st century (Agenda 21) was their aim. Sustainable Development or sustained development ? In Rio de Janeiro,the walls were built higher around the favelas and ghettos, while the politicians sped past in limousines , the street homeless kids were rounded up and shot, The children of the world produced their own Agenda for the twenty first century it was called "rescue mission planet earth" pointing out all the things the adults had left out in the repair plan for the earth. Being aware of this a group of intrepid folk began to reclaim urban space, squatting and recycling empty buildings into Rainbow Centres, DIY Centres, Do-it-yourself culture, DIY environment centres, direct action, do it yourself Agenda 21,not willing to wait for the politicians and multinationals to squander the last of the earths resources. The camden squats.....the ideas seeded ..to use squatted reclaimed space for environmental action spaces,living and creative zones, providing skillsharing and workshop spaces on donations basis. The One world Rainbow Centre project was born �you have to be mad to try and do something.. Don�t just sit there for fucks sake do something The hospital .......big .knackered,leaky, striped and left to rot endless corridors� the first attempt a learning process. the department store... quote chief of police �come out or we�ll burn your truck, we don�t tolerate your sort of people in Richmond.� �� But we just wanna set up an environmental community centre.� The One World Rainbow Centre...squats McDonalds..go for high profile ..direct action ....media circus Father McDonald gave us the keys saying Mcdonalds realy didn�t want to be destroying rainforest, they realy wanted to make veggie macs and soya milkshakes�.
