Equipment

The following is a list of the equipment we have used with the net café over the years.Yes the specifications are real!

  • First Linux server (cira 1995): 386 16Mhz 4Mb RAM 40Mb hard drive.(built by John,software by Martin)
  • my first surfing machine: 286 2Mb RAM 2k4 modem (using a university account and lynx text client)
  • Miscellaneous. 386 ,486's and even a pentiun 75.
  • The kebele trial (cira 1999): 486 25Mhz 12Mb RAM 80Mb Hard drive. win95 explorer3

    O.K. not fast,not impressive, but working and surfing,

    The Fact is that these machines work, we (the SURFER crew) learnt alot from these 'obsolete' computers. And so did the people we taught,From 'surfing the net' to making there CV to building another computer for us. These skills are essential for todays working environment and should be taught to people not only at collages but on a informal level.
