There's a virus rumour email going around,
it tells you to find a file
windows/system/Jbdgmgr.exe
which has an icon like a teddy bear.
But Jbdgmgr.exe is not a virus -
its part of windows - you shouldnt delete it!
But if you do it doesnt matter much,
its used to run some Java applets,
but I'd advise turning off Java
in your web browser, Java applets can do all kinds of damage.
Whereas Javascript is relatively harmless.

Oh how I hate this sort of junk.
This is a well known hoax.
1) MS and AOL are not a single company; they are competing companies
(note that AOL owns Netscape).
2) MS would not waste so much money on such a scheme. Calculate the
exponential growth of the fees mentioned, which would wipe out Gates'
billions within the space of a few weeks if each person sent it on to
just six others. It's a version of the old pyramid scam which is illegal
in many countries and states (including those counties which have had
their economies ruined by similar practises).
3) The automatic tracing of e-mail in such a manner is technically
impossible. There is no practical means by which MS could know to whom
anyone mailed copies.
4) Please do not send me further spam in future.

Dear George,
Oops! If you're not too mad with me for dragging you and your friends
into an illegal fraudulent mindwarp, here are some details of what I'm
involved with on the web:
INTERNET NEWS
www.dollarpro.com/d.cgi/2879
This is a wealthbuilding club which is easy to join and costs only one
payment of $25 (£16) ever, and it works on a 3X3 matrix, so your main
responsibility is to get 3 people to join. In general you need to work
putting out legal adverts on the net, you will get advice how to do
that!
Matrix payouts $250, $1,500 and $5,000 on the first three stages.
www.cashomatic.net/members/greenleaf.html
This is a downline club, which is free to join, and the members join up
en masse into other companies, which should give rise to instant matrix
payoffs! For a minimum $23 we have just joined cashsite which provides
us with our own webpages and linksite etc.! Look at this too on:
www.cashsite.net/members/GF2479
(eventually I will have a business-type website here when I have built
it)
www/1milliondollar.com/18313
This is a worldwide program which pays out 100% to the players up until
they have reached $1,000,000. For $25 this time you get a downloaded
book of useful internet information. This is a 10X6 matrix, you need to
recruit 10 people, that million is the payoff on the 6th level.
www.stockgeneration.com
This is a virtual stock exchange, which works from a Caribbean island
where such games are legal. You can place real money and draw out your
winnings. The highest risk, but at the moment, the best stock, keeps
going up and up as more people join and buy in, it makes 60% to even
100% per month! This is worth a look, and all I ask is that if you
join, you log on my ID which is "leaf" as your referrer, this gives me a
small bonus to spend on the game.
Any queries, problems, comments etc, welcome. Contact me on:
[email protected]
That's it for today! Enjoy!

The response below may prove enlightening:
The following response has been received:
From: BruceBarton
Full-Name: Bruce Barton
X-Status: New
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:Bruce Barton was not the originator of this
e-mail, nor the recipient of any money. He wrote the first paragraph
about receiving the message from a friend who does not normally send
junk.He figured, like so many others, "What have we got to lose?"
Now we know. Our sanity!
The only thing we have received is a flood of e-mails
and one very big headache. If you haven't forwarded it on, please don't.
We would greatly appreciate it.Thanks.

Dear George & the other 23 recipients of the AOL/MS Chain Letter,
PLEASE everybody engage your brain BEFORE pressing the send button.
PLEASE DO NOT waste bandwith by proliferating these stupid juvenile
chain letters. They are very old, very boring, and only very slightly
amusing the first time one reads them.
DO NOT FORWARD this rubbish to anyone else - even if you hate them.
This type of abuse places your ISP well within its rights to discontinue
your account should they wish to take the matter seriously.
Also keep in mind that proliferating chain letters is actually ILLEGAL
in many countries.
Now stop this nonsense and Have A Nice Day,
(and a happy Hallowe'en if you happen to be in Mile End this weekend :)
Colin Russ.

For those of you who've sent me chain e-mail before: my feelings aren't
quite as strong as those expressed at the start of this (so don't take
it personally) but I think the point is well made. For those who
haven't: don't (unless it's very good). For all of you: enjoy :-).
BTW, I would add virus hoaxes as the fifth basic type :-)
