Round Table
Roy Tim Nora and Paul had attended the most recent meeting on 16th October. Their opinion was that the 2003 timings should be continued as the morning access had spread pressure away from the stone circle and improved behaviour. As the Solstice is at 0158AM access to the stones should be no later than 0030AM.

The main pressure of traffic on a Sunday evening would be returning from the West on the A303 and early arrival would be a problem if it could not be discouraged. If traffic queues built up as they did in 2003 a decision to admit early might have to be made to prevent vehicles backing up onto the A303.

Some thought should be given to alternative traffic routes. Having traffic from the East turn right at Countess Roundabout through Larkhill, or even taking it off the A303 at Folly Bottom through Bulford, would prevent the right turn at Long Barrow so traffic could run more freely from the West. Flexible and active traffic management could move signs, depending on the situation on the day.

If pedestrians use a path through the fields, the A344 could remain open for emergency vehicles. All these measures would help keep the A303 flowing smoothly.

We hope that access can be negotiated for pedestrians from the Amesbury direction to use a tunnel that goes under the A303.

Meetings
Kay suggested there could be an informal TRC meeting on the same day as the Round Table, and continuing after the Planning meeting, so Roy could report back and Peter Carson or other organisers could also attend, if there was anything that needed clarification.
